Having visited Oakwright at Hereford and being impressed with their promise of quality and professionalism we embarked on our turn-key dream home for our retirement using Oakwright sole Scottish representative Ian Hendry ( Hendry Developments Ltd. ). Having moved in July 2020, we have had scaffolding around the house on 4 consecutive years for (1) recurring major water ingress requiring removal of windows and major disruption. (2) complete removal and renewing of render on both gable walls. In addition, our Indian sandstone patio and paving had to be relaid on 3 occasions. Our “dream home” turned out to be a nightmare due to cowboy workmen and shoddy workmanship.Please avoid Ian Hendry Developments at all costs.

We attended an Open Day in Herefordshire back in September 2020 and from that experience, seeing the available serviced plots, meeting several members of the team and seeing the amazing workshops and skilled workers, we knew we wanted to embark on the custom/self build journey with Oakwrights if we could make it happen. We had often talked about building our own home but thought it would be too difficult finding just the right plot, but with Oakwrights working in partnership with landowners providing serviced plots, with the important planning permission, the possibility seemed much more achievable. We secured our plot, went back to planning with Oakwrights’ support throughout and finally embarked on the build in January 2022. Yes there were delays to this point, coming off the back of the pandemic with supply chain issues but once the build started progress was great. We will never forget the excitement of the oak frame week, to see the transformation in just four days was incredible! Our build was not a ‘turn key’ so we led on aspects of the build - with our fantastic local build team - once Oakwrights had got us to a dry shell. We moved in to our barn-style home in late October, just 10 months in all. The follow up and aftercare has been excellent as inevitably there have been ‘snags’ to correct. It was a huge step to embark on building our home, and an oak-framed one is very special. We’re glad we had the expertise from Oakwrights to guide us along the way. (In addition our little community of Oakwrights homes is an award winning project for 2022 through the Build It annual awards)

We recently moved in to our new home which has been designed and constructed as a collaboration between Oakwrights and Bowbridge Homes. We can honestly say that our interactions with Oakwrights throughout the whole process has been a real pleasure. Right from our initial questions, through the design phase and through the construction itself, all of the Oakwrights team that we have worked with have been friendly, helpful and professional. They all take a real pride in their work. Having never previously had either a custom built nor oak framed house before, it has been so valuable to us to have their input and suggestions along the way. We were also impressed and reassured by a tour of their manufacturing facility. The quality of the craftsmanship is evident everywhere you look. We were delighted with the service received from Oakwrights from the planning stage, through the complications of obtaining the permissions for the build on a listed building and in a conservation area, through the build and onto the aftercare. Can highly recommend. We have the most fantastic space that has added hugely to our house and its beauty.

Great advice for our planning from Oakwrights architect when replacing bungalow with a 1.5 storey home. As complete first timers, they guided us through the design and build stage which we project managed ourselves. Over 10 years since finishing our oak frame home it still looks fab and we love it.

Recently requested and received brochure from Oakwrights. Had a follow up email a couple of weeks ago from Craig telling me he was responsible for our area and inviting me to get back to him if I needed a more information. I replied the following day suggesting that my wife and I would prefer to meet and speak face to face. I listed our availability and willingness to meet at a location convenient to him or visit him in Hereford. Have not had the courtesy of a response. I am sure that Oakwrights' product is very good (hence 2 stars rather than 1) but unimpressed with the Company's lack of interest and have gone elsewhere.
